Feature Set: 10/10
DVD Cloner 2013 makes DVD copies of any format quickly and professionally. There are a number of flexible options and capabilities in this DVD burning software, but the interface dynamically adjusts to only show the appropriate options. For example, when you insert a single-layer DVD-5, only the applicable options for that disc format are available.
Depending on the disc format, you can:
- Make a straight 1:1 copy of the original content without compromising quality
- Compress a full DVD-9 and burn it on one DVD-5
- Burn a DVD-9 on two DVD-5s without losing any quality
- Copy a DVD to your hard drive
- Copy just the movie, preserving disc space and reducing the compression
- Make a custom copy, including or discarding specific content
- Copy two movies onto one high-format disc (Blu-ray or dual-layer DVD)
Obviously, DVD Cloner 2013 is very flexible, giving you plenty of advanced options to meet your individual needs. Whether you want to burn a full 1:1 copy, rip a Blu-ray or just copy the movie without trailers – DVD Cloner can do it all. You are presented with the option to burn just the main movie and you can add the special features and bonus material if you want.
This version has also improved on the already fast speed of the software. Ripping and burning processes are both quick, and we were able to copy a complete DVD movie in just over half an hour.
We love that in the custom mode the application clearly displays how much room you have left on your target DVD and lets you adjust the compression of your copy accordingly. You can also adjust the compression ratio of the bonus features using the advanced setup. To maintain the integrity of the source file, the program defaults to a higher compression for additional chapters, but if you know what you’re doing, these advanced settings really come in handy. As you add or remove content, the compression dynamically adjusts for maximum quality, and you can preview individual scenes to see how compression is affecting the quality.
This DVD burner software is compatible with multiple languages, including English, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Greek, Hungarian and many more. It also supports PAL, NTSC, DVD+-R/RW, all home stand-alone DVD players and most DVD burners.
DVD Cloner is a great stand-alone program, but the DVD burning software comes with free bonus software as well. With a purchased or upgraded copy, you can get a free copy of DVD Ripper Lite, a DVD ripper suite that helps you convert ripped files from DVD to AVI, DVD to MPEG and DVD to SVC.
If you'd like to rip DVD movies for playback on your iPod, consider the upgraded DVD Cloner Platinum.

Quality of Copy: 10/10
While most DVD burning software can compress a full movie to a DVD-5 disc, DVD Cloner can also burn a full quality 1:1 clone (as long as you have the hardware to do it). Furthermore, Cloner can take two DVD movies and burn them to a single DVD-9. DVD Cloner also offers the ability to burn Blu-ray Discs without the need to download a third party plugin.
We successfully tested the batch copy feature. These settings are applied after the source DVD (or file) has already been read by the program (so you only have to rip once). Before beginning the copy process, you can choose to make one or a dozen copies of the same movie. The software prompted us every time a new blank disc needed to be inserted into the burner. This is not a new feature, but a useful one that functions perfectly.
DVD Cloner 2013 makes excellent copies that retain the quality of the original disc even if you are compressing an entire full-length DVD (DVD-9) with all its bonus footage to a 4.7GB DVD-R (DVD-5). You can also choose to customize your burn copy by selecting the Movie Customization option. This is where you’ll find the options to copy bonus footage, subtitles, audio, language and menus.
DVD Cloner 2013 also supports copying to dual-layer DVD-Rs (DVD-9) with no need to compress, but you must have a dual-layer compatible DVD burner to utilize this feature. If your burner is not capable of burning to a dual-layer DVD-9 disc, DVD Cloner offers two solid options. An excellent copy can be made by selecting “Movie Only.” This leaves out additional bonus footage and menus, thereby requiring less compression. Or, you can opt to split the whole shebang (movie, menus, titles, bonus materials, etc.) onto two DVD-5 discs without losing any picture quality. Plus, the menu will be available on both DVDs.
This software will also copy to your hard drive. This is an energy saving feature for laptops as well as a way to store your movies on your computer for viewing or burning copies later. If you choose to burn a DVD from a file you already have on your hard drive but that hasn’t necessarily been “read” by DVD Cloner 2013, the files have to include the original ripped ISOs. DVD Cloner will not read the MPEG-2 format.

Application Stability: 10/10
DVD Cloner 2013 is exceptionally easy to understand and use. For standard DVD to DVD copying, no additional downloads are needed. The bundled programs you can get for free do require additional downloads, but these don’t take much time and are just as easy to use.
As with all the best-of-the-best DVD burn products we reviewed, DVD Cloner 2013 is super easy to install – as a straight download or using the physical disc. As long as your OS is compatible with program specs and you can click on the “next” button of the install wizard, you won’t encounter any problems with this install.
Other features of DVD Cloner that we successfully tested include the ability to erase rewritable discs, select burning speeds and create labels for our projects.

Ease of Use: 10/10
DVD Cloner 2013 doesn't burn CDs, but otherwise, all optical disc types are supported by this program. The Blu-ray caveat being that if you intend to burn to or from a Blu-ray Disc you will need a specialized Blu-ray burner to accomplish this.
Ease of Installation: 10/10
DVD Cloner offers technical support by way of user manuals, email, telephone, live chat, FAQs and a knowledge base. There are also plenty of tutorial videos we found on YouTube and elsewhere.

Summary
DVD Cloner 2013 is well deserving of its high ranking on this side-by-side comparison of DVD burning software. Though it boasts the ability to decrypt some CSS codes, the software also repeatedly prompts you that you are on your own if you get yourself into legal trouble using their product. (For example, it’s probably not a good idea to batch-copy 200 duplicates of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and try to sell them on the street). However, if you’re harmlessly backing up your DVD collection and data files, this program is superior to the competition.
